1. About Project Troll

Project Troll provides information about bridge heights and associated conditions on the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. The website provides access to live and historical measurements, graphical representations and other information intended to help visitors understand bridge clearances and changing conditions.

By accessing or using this website, you agree to comply with these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the website.

2. Ownership of data and intellectual property

The bridge-height measurements, historical datasets, associated databases, website content, graphics, presentation and underlying systems are owned by, or used under licence by, the Project Troll data owner.

Some materials may be protected by copyright, database rights and other applicable intellectual property laws. In particular, database rights under the Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997 may apply to the collection, verification and presentation of the datasets.

Nothing in these terms transfers ownership or grants a general licence to use or exploit the underlying datasets.

3. Permitted use

You may access and use the website to view information for your personal, recreational and navigational reference. You may view the measurements, use the interactive charts and refer to individual readings for your own purposes.

Access to the website does not grant permission to systematically extract, collect, reproduce, store, redistribute or republish the underlying datasets.

4. Activities requiring permission

Unless permitted by applicable law or authorised in writing by the data owner, you must not:

  • Systematically collect, harvest or scrape data from this website or its services.
  • Use bots, scripts, crawlers or other automated tools to extract or replicate our datasets.
  • Download or reproduce a substantial part of our live or historical datasets, or repeatedly extract data in a way that reconstructs or replicates those datasets.
  • Republish, redistribute, transmit or make our data available through another website, application, service or database.
  • Sell, licence or otherwise commercially exploit our data.
  • Use our data to create or maintain a competing service or dataset.
  • Bypass or interfere with technical restrictions, usage limits or measures intended to protect our services.

These restrictions apply whether the activity is undertaken for commercial or non-commercial purposes. They do not remove any rights or exceptions that you may have under applicable law.

5. Requests for permission and data licensing

We recognise that our data may be useful for other applications, research projects and commercial services. We welcome enquiries about permission to access, integrate, reproduce or redistribute our data.

Any permitted use may be subject to a separate agreement or data licence. Written permission must be obtained before undertaking an activity restricted by these terms.

Please contact enquiries@bridgeheight.com with details of your proposal, intended use and contact information.

6. Accuracy and reliability of information

We make reasonable efforts to provide accurate and timely information. However, measurements and associated information may be affected by sensor accuracy, equipment faults, communications failures, environmental conditions, data processing and other technical limitations. Measurements may be delayed, incomplete or unavailable.

Information on this website is provided for general information and reference purposes only. It must not be relied upon as the sole basis for navigation or decisions affecting the safety of vessels, passengers or property. Users remain responsible for assessing conditions, checking clearances and making their own navigational decisions. Where appropriate, consult official navigation information and relevant authorities.

7. Availability of services

We do not guarantee that the website, its data feeds or associated services will be continuously available, uninterrupted or free from errors. We may modify, suspend or withdraw any part of the website or its services without notice.

We may restrict or block access where usage is excessive, abusive, automated or otherwise inconsistent with these terms.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we exclude responsibility for loss or damage arising from reliance on information provided by the website, including inaccuracies, omissions, delays or interruptions in data availability.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, or affects any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The latest version will be published on this website with the date of the most recent revision.

10. Governing law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales shall have jurisdiction in relation to disputes, subject to any mandatory legal rights that apply.
